Are you a photographer? Me too. I always bring at least three different quilts with me to an outdoor photo session. Why? It is always good to have something for your clients to sit on if you want them on the ground. I personally hate getting my nice clothes dirty, and you don’t want to ask your clients to do that! The quilts also add some color and texture to photos.

With over 100 new quilts this week, it is overwhelming to look through them all and choose the best one for you. So, I picked my favorites for a photo session. If I was running out the door today for a family session, I would grab three or more of these quilts below!

I try to grad one or two quilts with lots of blue fabrics. Blue seems to always match whatever my clients show up wearing. I then grad a quilt that is more multi colored because they always match too. I then find one with more white. This fits my style and will match well too.

Choosing Your Quilt

Yikes, it’s been a longggg time since I blogged! It’s been almost to the date from when I found out I was pregnant. So, lets just say my mind has been preoccupied.

But, I know busy season is beginning (yay fall) for so many of you, so I wanted to share some tips on how *I* choose a quilt for a photo session.

Let me preface by stating that everyone styles are different. I shoot more natural and bright with lots of sun. Therefore, I prefer quilts that aren’t as dark. So, if you shoot darker, you might prefer something different! I also mainly shoot weddings, so I don’t actually use quilts as often as I used to. I mainly pull them out for my engagement sessions.

What I look for when I choose a quilt for an outdoor photo session:

Different Colors
Some Blue
Some Neutrals
Some White

I always show up to a session with 3 to 4 different quilts. I try to bring ones that are different in colors so that one of them will definitely match what my client is wearing. My most tried and true color that seems to match everyyyyything is blue. When I bring multiple quilts to a session, 9 times out of 10, I choose the quilt with more blue.

It is also helpful to have a quilt with lots of different colors. This will help make sure that it should match as well!

Quilts with more white tend to match really well too. But, they are also more likely to be blown out in your photos.
