session

Shout Out | Kathryn Johnson Photography

DSC_1421.jpg

This is a special session, one that no one wants to shoot. These beautiful photos document the loss of a child. This couple experienced an ectopic pregnancy and these photos were taken instead of their planned maternity session. In memory of their baby, they planted a flower garden. The flowers in these photos are from that same garden. Kathryn did an excellent job capturing the sorrow and life through the photos.

As photographers, we are here to capture people's lives. And not all of our days are full of happy smiles. Our lives are full of loss, and I am thankful that Kathryn captured these real, hard moments.

This quilt of Kathryn's that graces these photos is one of my favorites. It is a beautiful quilt that is full of pastels. Scroll to the end to learn more about Kathryn and to show her some love in the comments!

Meet the Photographer:

Kathryn is a natural light photographer in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As a new photographer, Kathryn is currently shooting a little bit of everything, from newborn and fresh 48 sessions, to family portraits and lifestyle sessions. She got her first DSLR last November, and her only wish is that she had started sooner! Her favorite subject is her 19 month old daughter, Norah, and that will soon grow to include a baby boy in January. When not behind the lens or the computer, Kathryn works part time at her church, and is the president of a non-profit for families who have experienced pregnancy losses, called Hannah’s Hope.

Monday's Faves - Sunset Session

todayspicks.jpg

Summer sessions, about an hour before sunset, are my favorite. For many reasons, other than the yummy light, such as less miserable temperatures! We had a fun session planned for yesterday, and all three of these quilts were loaded in the car to be used! Unfortunately, it was rained out (more like monsooned out).

I always go for quilts with a lot of color. You never know what your client will show up wearing, so it is nice to have a quilt that can match lots of different styles.

All quilts are still available as of 10AM CST, Monday 6/19/17.

Hexagon Quilt - $125

This colorful quilt would be perfect for this evening sessions. With the different colors throughout, it would match most outfit choices. The darker colors also had a lot of contrast, especially with that nice golden light.

Nine Patch Quilt - $95

This quilt is a favorite and would be prefect for those golden hour photos. The combination of multiple colors makes it easy to pair with your client's outfits. It is also really soft!

Patchwork Quilt - $95

This is a thinner, lighter weight quilt, which makes it easy to carry around during a session. The patchwork fabrics and colors are great for sessions when you aren't sure what clothes your client will show up in! I love the deeper colors too, they add a lot of contrast to photos!

Heidi Girl

Quilts make the best backdrops! I love seeing creative/new ways to use quilts!!! Heidi is not always the best subject. She just doesn't get it. Maybe our future kids will. Here is to hoping!
